Lowell Hohstadt is a Juilliard and Eastman graduate with a concentration in violin performance and composition. He has led the worship and fine arts teams of Odessa Christian Faith Center, as Minister of Music, for over 35 years in full-time ministry. This background gives him the qualifications necessary to successfully teach, not only in Classical Music disciplines, but also in broadened areas of electronic music, digital recording, and live contemporary applications.

Students from high school age to adults have benefitted from Lowell Hohstadt’s teaching, as he has prepared them for performances ranging from Senior Recitals to auditions for Symphony Orchestras throughout the country.

Violinist
Lowell Hohstadt has performed as soloist with orchestras and given recitals in New York, Europe, Mexico, and Midland-Odessa. He has played in the Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra (now the West Texas Symphony) since 1977.

Composer
Lowell Hohstadt has composed hundreds of works, ranging from Symphonic, Choral, and Chamber Music, in styles ranging from Modern Classical to Jazz and Pop/Rock. He has been commissioned by the Cassatt Quartet, the Midland-Odessa Symphony, the UTPB Symphony Orchestra, and Texas Tech and Texas A&M faculty.

Lowell Hohstadt has served as a director, composer, arranger, and worship leader, providing leadership for an average of four services per week. He has participated in modern technologies and the design-build for several multi-million dollar facilities, including a recent 2,000-seat sanctuary.

Lowell Hohstadt was the winner of the Bach Violin Competition, as well as the Composition Competition two years in a row, premiering an Orchestral Overture the first year and performing his own Violin Concerto the second year.

Bachelor of Music, The Juilliard School
Lowell Hohstadt studied violin with the renowned teacher, Dorothy Delay, performing regularly in her master-classes. During his time at Juilliard, he performed as soloist in Romania, Spain, Mexico, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and in Vienna’s Musikverien Hall.

Master of Music, Eastman School of Music
Lowell Hohstadt studied with the renowned composer, Samuel Adler, with a double-major in violin performance and composition. At this time, he wrote his second Violin Concerto, commissioned by the Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra. He premiered this composition for his Graduate Recital at Eastman, and subsequently performed it with the Midland-Odessa Symphony.
